Well done! “ Until then, I will take satisfaction in the fact that a bride can sip on a dick straw while stuffing dollars into a stripper’s G-string and be a good wife and a feminist all at the same time.”
Hi - found you through Substack recommendations. Your work reminds me a little of Nan Goldin only more cheerful. While the original bridal shower could have some sexy lingerie moments, it was of course commemorating what was supposed to be the bride's first sexual experience, not her last wild one. I appreciate your eye and your openness to documenting a changing culture.
I personally prefer to be old-fashioned and respect myself. Men can do that , too. I’ve always thought the entire thing about Bachelor parties and Bachlorette parties useless as if being married was going to be the end of having fun? Not in the least. For me, God should always be at the center of our behaviors regardless if it is a man or a woman , if it’s a party before the sanctity of a marriage or not. I get it, not all believe in that, and call me a prude but I have no regrets about that and I matched up with someone with the same values. What a blessing.
I think the fun thing about the images and topic, for me, is that it provokes such a large array of conflicting and not easily resolvable feelings around sex, partnership, societal norms, etc. Perhaps the worst is that, in the end we are still animals, driven by our base desires, and at the same time aspire to something above that. Man (humans) cursed to be just a touch away from transcending our corporeal selves.

Most intriguing! And I love the connection you made to misogyny. I'm looking forward to more.
Thanks!
