Reactions to Election Results at the Rockefeller Center and Trump Tower
The celebration and the mourning.
Welcome to In the Flash, a reader-supported publication about intent and creativity in photography.
I photographed people watching election results come in till 1 am in Midtown NYC yesterday for a German publication, Die Zeit. This is how the night went.
Towards the end of the night I went to the Trump Tower, where Trump supporters were celebrating. The mood was jovial until one man from a Jews for Trump group recognized a young man wrapped in an American flag as Sneako, a popular streamer known for his anti-semitic statements. The Jewish man (NOT rabbi Shmuley who confronted him earlier that evening at a protest) started screaming at Sneako, trying to instigate a fight and accusing him of being a Nazi and an anti-semite. Sneako didn't budge, calmly replying “What are you going to do about it?”
Two antagonistic groups rubbing shoulders as they celebrated their choice for president encapsulates the contradictions and absurdity of this election. The genuine shock of the Jewish man at finding himself face to face with Sneako exposed a glaring disconnect between rhetoric and reality. The unity of such disparate groups who despise one another but came together to idolize the same men does embody a hefty dose of irony.
The rest of the people stood back, observing the scene with interest. One man tried to de-escalate the situation: “We are here for the same cause! We are all friends here!" The crowd roared.

Good read. Impressive photos. Thanks. Heartbreaking.
Wow!! Re the ending! Another example of how staying online too much just disconnects one from reality.
