When New York Magazine asked me to shoot an exclusive cannabis dinner in the East Village, it seemed straightforward. I arrived at a private loft in a brownstone building just as four chefs were prepping the food. Right away I realized this wasn’t going to be easy. The food had already been infused with THC and there were no signifiers that this meal was somehow different from any other. I located a few cannabis atomizers and used them to construct a forced still-life next to the chef’s hands. It had the pitiful charm of a stock photo. That wouldn’t do.
