Welcome to In the Flash, a weekly, behind-the-lens dialogue on photography. To join the conversation

Jack Teich was kidnapped at gunpoint from his own driveway in 1974, held for a week, and returned for a 750 thousand dollar ransom. One of my favorite writers, Taffy Brodesser-Akner weaved together the fascinating story on the kidnapping for this article, so I won’t go into more detail about the particulars of the case itself. But this is not just a true crime story, but a complex look at dealing with a life-long post-traumatic stress disorder, including the author’s personal harrowing tale of giving birth.
