Welcome to In the Flash, a weekly, behind-the-lens dialogue on photography. To join the conversation
When you are used to the weight of the camera to produce photos, having them come from a click on your computer feels both like magic and a bit like cheating. The remote process is still the Wild West of photography, a remarkably promising but empty niche in an otherwise oversaturated, competitive field. When I googled “how to do remote photography” before writing this newsletter, curious to see what exists, the search exposed the lack of information about the process. One of the first results was a Reddit post from two years ago.
“I am amazed I can’t find anything on remote photography in this sub.”
One of the replies exemplified the ethos of the discussion that followed:
“This reads desperate for a thing that doesn’t need to exist.”
