Favorite Hacks and Thoughts on Street Photography
Being a male street photographer without seeming creepy and other hot tips.
Welcome to In the Flash, a reader-supported publication about intent and creativity in photography.
First, a disclaimer. I have never considered myself a street photographer. Several of my projects happen to take place on the street — Meatpacking, Where the Amish Vacation, Dark City — but the street acts more like a setting than a subject in itself. All these series began with curiosity mixed with voyeurism, and the street happened to offer the most generous access to the particular social behavior or subculture I wanted to explore. As a result, I have acquired hacks on how to shoot on the street, which I am sharing in today’s newsletter.
